My mom loves Disneyland but she's very low key about it. To shower her with love we hooked her up with a visit to Club 33 that included complimentary entry and she had the best time. Being able to help her do something she already loved but more full out meant so much. Reading about your mom enjoyed her experience made me tear up and want to call my mom ASAP.
Thank you for sharing such a lovely story, Jenny! I love love high tea and afternoon tea! That was so nice of you to take your mom there and for taking her to Europe! You are a good egg, Jenny! I totally understand what you wrote about in your post. I don't think Asian Moms had time for hobbies because there were always in survival mode and sometimes still are which is understandable considering the times they grew up in and the times we are all currently in. Thank you for sharing your travel experience with your mom with us! I love your posts! Keep on writing!
This resonates SO DEEPLY. It’s like my mom acts exactly like and might as well be yours. The things our parents have seen and gone through, yet never talk about. Thank you for sharing!! ❤️
I LOVE this story :') very much relate to wanting to spoil my parents. its hard to have an abundance mindset when our parents grew up with scarcity mindsets, and they don't like to be spoiled! my dad had heart surgery almost exactly a year (that was a trial) he's much better now, but refuses to spend his money on things he actually needs. His rationale is it's our inheritance. Sigh. No, it's his retirement he earned for himself! Love that your mom found the joy in the trip despite the heartache of your dad passing.
Only if I force it on them lol like "here, I bought you sweatpants, you need them." At first, they don't want it, but then they like it and just accept it lol.
Gosh darn it, Jenny Yang!! How am I supposed to go out in the world with red and wet eyes??!! AND a full heart?!! What a lovely and familiar story, yet so distinctly your and momma’s own. Thank you for sharing it with us…wishing happiness for you and your mama, especially….xoxo, tamlyn
Weepy reading this. Good daughter! I'm glad she was able to share her joy and her grief with you. Now that my mother has Alzheimer's, I miss her and grieve her but I also get to see her joy in any given moment. To share with her a moment near the water, or watching a full moon rise, or giggling and gasping as I make her laugh with my imitation of someone Japanese trying to say something in Engrish. Tomorrow morning I board a plane to see her and meet my grand-nephew. My heart is already breaking and expanding. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Listened to the audio while driving home yesterday and just now seeing the photos! Afternoon tea looked lovely. I’ll have to take my mom to a afternoon tea spot soon!!

aww thank you sami! also SO CUTE to have a mama enjoy disneyland. you are a good daughter 🥰
Heck, I now want to cry and hug your mom!
awwww i will receive it for her virtually!
My mom would never buy anything for herself so I told her many times "JUST GET IT". This is how I live my life.
would she actually get it though?
Sometimes, but she never felt she had the right to spend "her husband's money" on herself. I always tried to encourage her!
good!
Are those snowmen cakes made of delicous marzipan I CANNOT
hahah yes! a very light now gross textured marzipan!
PURE CLASS! So happy you had a nice time ❤️
thank you! 🥰

so relatable. thank you for sharing. so would they accept your gifts though? even though they wouldn't buy themselves the nice thing?

yeah why do they react immediately with no no don't need it! but then like it when they know they can't refuse???
CRYING, and inspired by your stories to do the same. <3
